The Original Spark Plug Boot Heat Shield

A spark plug boot heat shield can protect wires and boots from ambient heat exposure and damage up to 1200 F. They can even help in instances where the spark plug boot directly touches the header or manifold. These heat shields extend plug wire and boot life while also increasing ignition-system performance through reduced wire resistance. The Insul-Boot™ by Heatshield Products prevent misfires caused by plug-wire burnout, helping prevent critical engine damage and performance losses.

Quality Construction - Piece of Mind

The double-wall construction provides superior heat protection, while special heat treatment of the fiberglass reflects and dissipates heat. The universal design fits most spark plug boot heat shield angles, and is available in natural tan and ceramic colors red, blue and black. We have always included a metal ring in out boot protectors. This ensures the heat shield stays in pace and does not walk itself up the ignition wire and expose your drive to catastrophe. Installation of these spark plug wire heat socks is easy and will not hinder spark plug changes.

Installing Spark Plug Boot heat Shield

  1. Always wear safety glasses, dust mask, and gloves when handling this product. Fiberglass may cause temporary skin and eye irritation
  2. Slide the open side of the Lava Boot onto the spark plug boot first (Figure 1)
  3. Slide Lava Boot and spark plug boot onto the spark plug, press firmly to make sure contact is made (Figure 2)
  4. The rings side of the Lava Boot should rest between the cylinder head, and tip of spark plug boot. This prevents the Lava Boot from walking up the plug wire, allowing for burnout (Figure 3)
  5. PRO TIP: For LS Motors, it may be necessary to remove the factory metal shield around the plug boot.

Spark Plug Boot Shield Install

Does your spark plug boot heat shield fit over 90 degree boots?

Yes, the Insul-Boot will work on 90 degree boots.

Which side does the ring go on?

The metal ring side should go in between the cylinder head and the spark plug boot. This prevents the spark plug boot shield form “walking” up the ignition wire and holds it in place.

Should I take my spark plug boot off to out on the heat shield?

You should not remove your spark plug boot to use the shield. Using the metal ring in between at the end (engine side) of the boot holds the heat shield in place.
