Ok, it’s time to install the turbo kit, centrifugal blower or new exhaust system on your car or truck. Let’s make sure you’ve got everything: Tools, check. Parts, check. Heatshield Armor™…how could you forget Heatshield Armor™?!

Heatshield Armor™ Should be on Your List Before You Get Started

Turbos and blowers make power, but most of them also generate a great deal of heat. A turbocharger is integrated into the exhaust system, making it an extremely hot spot. On centrifugal blower kits like those from Vortech or ProCharger, even though the blower itself is driven by the engine, all the system’s intake piping is in/near the engine and radiator, which means more heat exposure. Using turbo heat shields controls that heat, keeping it inside the system for more power and out of the engine bay, where it can decrease intercooler efficiency and make the engine’s cooling system work harder.

In the image above, thanks to the thermograph you can clearly see where the Heatshield Armor wrapped pieces of exhaust piping are showing very cool thermal signatures, compared to the uncovered pieces. Keeping that heat in the exhaust pipe feeding into the turbo helps keep EGTs (Exhaust Gas Temperatures) high, increasing exhaust gas velocity which in turn spins the turbo faster.

If you’re installing a turbo system, Heatshield Armor™ is a definite must to cover both the exhaust feed and the air-intake piping on your new system. Not only will the increased exhaust gas temps help turbo performance (as mentioned in our previous blog<<mention blog name and insert link>>). but the increased ambient heat exposure to everything around the turbo system will be drastically reduced, which will be a life-saver in the long run on your vehicle.

Heatshield Armor™ installs easily—much easier than traditional exhaust wraps—and takes up very little space, so it can fit in tight areas with minimal air flow. And unlike exhaust wrap, Heatshield Armor™ can be used over any shape. It comes in sheets that can be easily cut and secured on headers, supercharger bodies or just about anything!

Installing Heatshield Armor is extremely easy. The only tools you need are a razor knife, a pair of dykes, and a pair of needle nose pliers, the latter for use with the Thermal Ties that secure Heatshield Armor in place. And because of our specially formulated ThermoCool fiber material, you don't have to worry about getting itchy and irritated skin from contact like with other fiberglass-based thermal barriers.

Anytime you’re doing work on your exhaust system, and/or installing new parts, you should have Heatshield Armor™ to install on all that piping. It will prevent heat from radiating out of the exhaust pipes, which keeps exhaust gas temps up and increases exhaust gas velocity, while also eliminating the heat radiating from the exhaust from heating up the floor of your car, thereby decreasing interior temps and increasing comfort. And it will protect components near the exhaust, like the brake and fuel lines, cables and so on, from the damaging effects of constant ambient heat exposure.
