Heat Shield for Harsh Conditions

Lava™ Shield Mat is a very rugged heat shield barrier due to basalt’s (mineral from volcanic rock) natural UV, water, chemical, and acid resistant properties. Well suited for custom stamping and processing this shield may be added to your production line during the manufacturing process. It is also easy to retrofit into applications in the field by a technician or owner operator. High-strength adhesive backing ensures years of service without worry of it falling off a properly prepared surface.

Limited Air Space is Okay

Lava Shield mat is specked out for a continuous 1200F of radiant with spikes of 2000F for less than 30 seconds. Heat barriers are designed for use with a 1 inch of air space from the heat source. Lava Shield is so rugged that a 1/2-inch of clearance is acceptable in some conditions. It is also better to use Lava Shield when there are instances of little air flow, making it a superior insulator to aluminum and gold barrier fabrics in these occurrences.

Q. Why don't you recommend using Lava Shield on rough, unfinished fiberglass or carbon?

A. Self adhesive backings cannot fill in the surface irregularities that occur on unfinished glass or carbon. For these applications, it is better to use a spray on adhesive.
