Direct contact vs standoff & all metal exhaust heat shields: Standoff exhaust heat shield utilizes a gap between the pipe and heat shield. Standoff air gaps allow heat to permeate from the exhaust system and radiate outward and around the standoff heat shield. This can reduce hot spots in on the exhaust system, but can still contributes to overall engine heat. Most clamp on heat shields, just conduct heat though the metal stand off to the “cold side” of the heat shield. The same thermal conductivity dynamic also occurs with the all alloy heat shields. The hot side metal directly touches the exhaust and conducts heat to the “cold side” metal of the shield. To decouple this thermal energy, we use a textile giving our exhaust heat shields an advantage. With the Heatshield Armor, you control the direction you want the heat to go, instead of just hoping it goes the right place with a standoff heat shield.

Exhaust Heat Shield vs. Exhaust Lagging Wrap: An exhaust heat shield, such as our Heatshield Armor are usually easier to install vs. an industrial exhaust wrap. The armor also has an outer shield to protect them after they have been installed. This guards against accidental human contact. Which can hurt personnel or even cause damage to the wrap by snagging it or causing fraying. Exhaust wraps generally reduce 40 to 50 percent of radiant pipe heat. The Heatshield Armor can reduce up to 70 percent of heat. The advantage of an exhaust wrap, is that it is a more economical exhaust insulation solution.

    HP Felt Shield is the perfect high temperature insulation solution for heating issues caused by a diesel particulate trap retro fit, general exhaust heat, genset or any repower restoration. The special materials used in this fabric make it amazingly efficient at displacing thermal energy, even in a ⅛” thickness. The black side of this felt insulation may be used directly on the exhaust system for direct insulation. The versatility of this heat shield material also allows it to be used as a heat shield thermal barrier by lining the engine compartment or under side of vehicle and facing the aluminum side towards the exhaust system to stop the radiant heat. When used as a heat shield barrier, attach mechanically with rivets or screws, large washers are also recommended. Designed to take temperatures of 1800°F.
