Lava Wrap® – The Original Lava Rock Exhaust Wrap Dyed Black

For extreme heat, you need an extreme exhaust wrap like our Lava Wrap. With Stealth Lava Exhaust Wrap from Heatshield Products, that’s exactly what you get. Our original basalt wrap dyed black is made from crushed volcanic rock for a carbon-fiber wrap that offers 25 percent more strength than traditional fiberglass wraps. This means a longer product life and greater efficiency.

Keep Cool with Our Lava Heat Shield – Stealth® Lava Wrap

Perfect for use on headers and exhaust pipes, our black lava exhaust wrap keeps your vehicle cool by maintaining the heat of exhaust gases, decreasing gas density, and pulling the intake gases through the system faster. Not only does this car heat wrap lower exhaust under-hood temperatures by up to 40 percent, but it also increases horsepower. You may be wondering, how? By lowering intake temperatures.

Lava Wrap Heat Shield Real-World Temperature Ratings

Some manufacturers claim that their volcanic exhaust wraps can withstand temperatures of up to 1800°F, but beware! Basalt can actually become molten (turns into a liquid) at continuous temperatures of 1800°F. Our Stealth Lava Exhaust Wrap can withstand temperatures of 1200°F continuous and 2000°F intermittent—and that’s a real-world rating that you can count on.

What is the best exhaust wrap for my car?

We really like the Stealth Lava™ Exhaust wrap for all naturally aspirated applications. Because the black dyed lava rock fiber heat wrap is so much stronger than fiberglass wraps and it is naturally chemical, water, and acid resistant. We believe this makes the Stealth Lava™ Wrap one of the best exhaust wrap for most applications.

How can I reduce fraying when installing my exhaust wrap on my header?

We recommend the fold over or spray technique. The fold over involves having an extra 1/2 to 1 inch folded underneath the wrap when you start it and finish it at the end. You may also use a high temperature clear engine paint to spray on your volcanic rock wrap then cut to eliminate fraying.

Your exhaust wrap have a lower temperature rating than (Brand) *** and other volcanic rock wraps showing 1800 F?

Basalt (volcanic rock) has an operational/service temperature of 1200F. We acknowledge advertising our Stealth Lava™ Wrap to have a lower temperature rating doesn’t help us in sell over another brand, but we strive to be honest in our operational and peak temperatures. While it is true the basalt wraps can sustain a flash temperature of 2000°F, this is for less than 30 seconds. The reality is basalt has a sustained temperature rating of 1200F, molten lava has an average temperature range from 1700F-2200F, so question and verify any volcanic rock wrap saying it will sustain 1800F continuous.

Can I spray on a silicone coating for your wrap?

Yes you can, but do not buy an overpriced “silicone sealer spray”. Instead, visit a local auto parts store or order some high-quality engine or exhaust paint online. Don’t bother with silicone that needs to be reapplied every few months. We believe it is a gimmick to get you to buy more products

People say wrapping your exhaust pipes causes them to rust, is this true?

Short answer, no. Fiberglass, basalt (lava Wrap), and silica (Inferno Wrap) are all naturally water resistant fibers. This means, they will resist and repel water. A properly installed wrap will prevent less moisture from touching the exhaust pipe. Pipes that are completely saturated, like in a flood or extreme driving condition would see some water getting through to the pipe. However the increased exhaust gas temperatures would cause that moisture to evaporate relatively quickly.

Stealth Lava™ Wrap is smoking like crazy when it is new, is this normal? Is this bad for me to breath in?

The smoke you see is a starch, the starch goes on the fibers when the fibers are still raw. This is to aid in the wrap manufacturing process. The smoke you are seeing is the starch burning off when you first couple of heat cycles the motor. While it isn't harmful to breath in, we wouldn't advise it, it stinks - don't hot box in your garage! Do your first heat cycles outside. It will eventually stop.

How long does exhaust wrap smoke for?

Smoking time will vary. The hotter the exhaust system, they quicker the starches and binders wear off. Some applications last only 20 minutes, some vehicles with cooler running exhaust systems can last a few days
