Heatshield Products for Making Your Interior Cooler and Quieter

Car Interior Modification Ideas to Make Your Vehicle Cooler & Quieter

There’s nothing bad about making the inside of your car or truck cooler and quieter on the inside. This is especially true for a lot of classic cars and trucks that had little or no interior insulation from the factory. And the insulation products used in old cars and trucks weren’t near as effective as today’s modern interior insulation and noise damping products. Here, we’re listing some car interior modification ideas featuring our industry-leading products.

Right now it’s the time of year for repairs and improvements to our favorite four-wheeled machines. It’s the perfect time to think ahead for the hot summer cruising months and what you can do to sweat less and hear more while driving. Heatshield Products has all the materials to lower your car temperature—and also the products to help make things quieter inside your car or truck. We recently showed off one, our db Skin liquid sound damper, while cleaning up the interior and doing some floor repair in our 1963 Mercury Comet.

Here are the Heatshield Products Materials you need to improve interior comfort so you can enjoy driving your car or truck more.

DIY Car Sound Deadening Materials

db Stealth ArmorTM

Car Temperature

Few products can effectively lower interior car temperature while at the same time reducing noise and/or vibration transmitted through the floor and firewall. Even fewer can do that while not causing fitment issues under your vinyl flooring or carpet while also not adding a ton of dead weight to your car or truck. db Stealth ArmorTM does it all! This products is a cost-effective way to lower the temperature inside the car vs. outside.

Only weighing 0.65 pounds per square foot, db Stealth ArmorTM is only 0.176 inch thick, so it can easily fit under flooring while also being flexible enough to conform to floor contours with minimal effort. It combines the sound damping properties of db Armor with the heat blocking car insulation properties of StealthTM Shield. Adhesive backing means no need for any glues for installation. Reduce car temperature and sound in one easy installation.

StealthTM Shield

Car Insulation

Original factory car insulation in older vehicles has multiple disadvantages. For starters, it’s not the most effective at stopping heat transmission through the floor into the passenger compartment. Two, the material it’s made from acts like a sponge and will hold any moisture in for a long time. This helps to rot out floorboards and also gives your vehicle a perpetual mildew/sour-type smell. This is why so many old cars will have rusty front floorboards/toeboards. Third, the material is very flammable, and it doesn’t take much to light it off.

StealthTM Shield is only 1/8-inch thick, so there are no fitment issues under carpet or vinyl flooring. It is flame resistant and doesn’t hold moisture like factory car insulation. It can handle up to 1,800 degrees F continuous heat, and can be used with any of our sound insulation products. All you need for installation is a pair of good scissors and a razor knife for trimming the material to match your floor’s shape.

db Defender

Car Interior

While you’ve got your door panels removed to make way for your car interior modification ideas, it’s the perfect time to install db Defender material to help block moisture from coming through the door into your interior and also insulate the door from generating noise you can hear. Older cars and trucks used wax covered backing boards behind door panels, and later vehicles just a thin sheet of plastic that stopped moisture but did nothing for sound damping. db Defender is easily cut to fit your door’s shape, will stop moisture, and serve as a vibration damping material to reduce noise in your car interior. At only 0.045 inch thick, it has no fitment issues. You can even heat the material to make it tightly conform to the door for a simulated dipped-in-plastic look.

Superior Automotive Insulation and Sound Deadening Products

db SkinTM is a liquid sound damping material you can apply with a simple paint roller or spray gun to help reduce interior noise and vibrations. Because it’s a liquid using db Skin for large surface areas is a great way to save time while also reducing noise and vibrations. This interior modification dampens structural vibrations across 10 to 40 KHz and also leaves a waterproof barrier on the surfaces it’s applied to. It’s also good to use on the inside of speaker boxes to improve output. You definitely won’t have fitment issues under carpet or vinyl, and db Skin can be used with any of our insulation products for an effective thermal and sound barrier for your  car interior.

db ArmorTM

Interior Modification

A more traditional style of sound insulation, db ArmorTM sets itself apart by being specially designed and formulated to provide superior noise damping to your car interior while also weighing 20 percent less than the competition: only 0.4 pounds per square foot. It’s only 0.052 inch thick, so there are no fitment issues under carpet or vinyl flooring. db Armor is 1.5x more effective than the highest rated sound-deadening product on the market, as well as lighter and thinner. Its adhesive back and thinness make installing this interior modification easy, with only a pair of heavy scissors and/or razor knife needed for trimming and shaping.
